I once enjoyed watching the wonderful art, that was a product of Hollywood. I now have become so jaded thanks to the self important morons, that I admired for their artistic abilities to take me away from reality for at least a couple hours a week. I do not have a difficult, boring, or strenuous life, that I need to escape from, nor am I fighting for my country, life, or fellow servicemen anymore. What I do like about films, like so many people is the chance to escape a while, and enjoy life through someone else's life. Unfortunately, I cannot enjoy it anymore due to the fact that so many actors, actresses, and comedians have taken an opposing view to what I feel near and dear to, freedom from terrorism. Don't misunderstand me, they have a right to their opinion, as every person in this great country does, but the abuse of their celebrity to shout their opinion for the world to see, is destroying their business and my entertainment.
Why does a celebrity deserve to have more influence in this country than the wonderful men and women that give them their freedom to have a different view? I cannot understand for the life of me how an actor can don a uniform, play a brave part, make money for it, and then protest the operations that our military performs. I think you have lost touch with reality, when you think that you are an authority on the subject of war when you haven't served in combat, studied the subject as a history, theory, or a practice, and your only gleaming piece of ethos is a movie you did for money once upon a time. How does one feel comfortable in one's skin, playing a part in a film, that seems to be so different than one's core beliefs? Would Rosie ODonnell play a gay bashing bigot? Or Steven Spielberg product a film called "Adolf Hitler, The Greatest Mind Of The 20th Century"? I don't expect to see that in my lifetime. So with that being said, the lame excuse of playing a part that is so different from the person you are, gives the best performance in art, must only apply to the cash cow of war movies for Alec Baldwin, Martin Sheen, Mel Gibson, and Sean Penn. Sorry guys, when your opinion differs from the parts you play, your performance is as believable as John Rocker teaching Spanish.
I've got a simple solution for all of you, lets see you don the real uniform. No, I don't mean join the military, my fellow Marines need people with real backbones watching their back. I want to see you go to Iraq or Afghanistan, embed yourself for a week without the entourage, personal security, or the gleaming cameras for your candid. Lets see if the friendly terrorist give a crap that you are a celebrity. Maybe then you'll understand what is at stake, or at least gain some humility, to understand that your opinion is no where near as important to be heard by the masses in this country, than the men and women in our military in harm's way.
Just for giggles here is a list of the outspoken who cashed in on war films before they developed their arrogant ignorance: Sean Penn, Mel Gibson, George Clooney, Martin Sheen, Robin Williams, Oliver Stone, Tim Robbins, and John Cusack to name a few.
